The Slim-Fast diet utilizes bars and shakes to replace some meals and snacks, helping you to lose 1 lb. to 2 lbs. per week by assisting you to reduce your caloric intake. The Slim-Fast Jump Start diet utilizes many of the same concepts of the original Slim-Fast plan, but is designed to help you lose 3 lbs. to 5 lbs. in one week. According to "The Slim-Fast Body, Mind, Life Makeover," you should not stay on the Slim-Fast Jump Start diet for more than one week. Consult your physician prior to starting the Slim-Fast Jump Start diet or any other weight loss program.
Slim-Fast Jump Start Guidelines
The Slim-Fast Jump Start diet is designed to help you lose a few pounds quickly. This diet is designed only for very short-term use of no longer than one week. The Slim-Fast Jump Start diet requires you to perform aerobic exercise -- such as walking, cycling, swimming or low impact aerobics -- for 30 minutes per day. You must drink a minimum of 64 oz. of water per day in addition to any other beverages you consume.
Slim-Fast Jump Start Meal Plan
Three meals and two snacks are permitted each day on the Slim-Fast Jump Start diet. Breakfast and lunch consist of a Slim-Fast shake and serving of fruit. For dinner, you drink a Slim-Fast shake and eat a large salad with nonfat dressing. Eat a serving of vegetables for one of your snacks each day and a serving of fruit for your other snack. You are permitted to snack on an unlimited amount of sugar-free gelatin throughout the day.
Considerations
The Slim-Fast Jump Start diet produces fast weight loss because it only provides approximately 800 calories, which is regarded as a very low calorie diet, or VLCD, and should only be attempted under the supervision of a physician, according to "Nutrition: Concepts and Controversies." Quick weight loss may seem tempting, but losing more than 2 lbs. per week increases your chances of experiencing rebound weight gain, according to "Handbook of Obesity Treatment."
Alternatives
Although everyone wants to look her best for special occasions, keep in mind that it is unlikely anyone will notice if you weigh 5 lbs. heavier or 5 lbs. lighter than the last time they saw you. Instead of focusing on losing a couple of pounds in a few days, focus on developing a balanced diet and a healthy relationship with food. Successful long-term weight loss requires lifestyle changes that will last your lifetime. Consult a dietitian for assistance if you are struggling to eat a balanced diet.
