If you love the flavor of creme de menthe but not its alcohol content, you can make a non-alcoholic topping by combining cream, butter and mint-flavored candy chips. Simple and quick to make in your microwave or on your stove, you can serve it to anyone from toddlers to tee-totalers. If you prefer the added zing of a liqueur, mix up a batch of homemade creme de menthe to pour over ice cream, pound cake or fresh fruit.

Non-Alcoholic Topping

Step 1

Combine the whipping cream, butter and creme de menthe chips in a 2-cup microwaveable bowl.

Step 2

Microwave the mixture on high for 45 seconds and remove the bowl from the microwave.

Step 3

Stir until the mixture is smooth and the candy is completely melted.

Step 4

Serve the topping over ice cream, cake or fruit. Refrigerate any leftovers.

Homemade Creme de Menthe

Step 1

Combine the sugar and water in a saucepan to make a syrup.

Step 2

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer it for five minutes.

Step 3

Cool the syrup. The saucepan should be cool to the touch.

Step 4

Add the peppermint extract, vodka and glycerine to the syrup and mix well.

Step 5

Pour the mixture into a clean bottle with a lid.

Step 6

Seal the bottle and shake the mixture well.

Step 7

Allow the creme de menthe to sit for two weeks before using.
