Many health and fitness professionals advise consuming adequate amounts of daily protein to promote quicker post-workout recoveries and help stave off hunger pangs.Vitamin C bolsters the body's immune system to also promote healing and reduce swelling and muscular inflammation. Taking the supplements together may cause bloating in some individuals, a condition you may alleviate by taking the protein and vitamin C using differing methods.
Step 1
Purchase a fruit-flavored protein mix in the flavor of your choice; strawberry is a common flavor, for instance. The average scoop contains about 20 g of protein, with two level scoops advised per serving. Mix just one scoop with 1 to 2 tbsp. of vitamin C mix. Add about 1 cup of fruit juice and mix well before consuming.
Step 2
Follow this method twice daily to meet your particular protein requirement. This method divides the amount of daily protein and vitamin C into separate doses, which reduces the amount in your stomach and reduces bloating.
Step 3
Consume the supplement doses at opposite times in the day if the bloating continues. Digestion time varies from person to person, so the further the time between taking the supplements, the more your body will have time to process the protein and the vitamin.
Tips and Warnings
- Consider taking vitamin C in capsule form. While capsules have a much slower rate of absorption versus a powered mix, the vitamin in this form will create less bloating and intestinal discomfort.
- Never use supplements as a primary food source. Instead, use additional protein and vitamin C to supplement your daily nutrient-rich meals. Consult a doctor or registered dietitian concerning any specified diet you're considering prior to undertaking the plan. Sixty-five to nearly 2000 mg of vitamin C are recommended daily. Doses higher than this have caused diarrhea in some users.
