Shrimp prepared on the barbecue can be a delicious summertime meal. To keep mess to a minimum and avoid losing shrimp through the grates on your grill, you should secure shrimp on a wooden skewer. Cooking time for shrimp is short, so don't leave the skewers unattended. Use pieces of shrimp that have been peeled and deveined. Keep the tails on the shrimp for easy handling and dipping after barbecuing.

Step 1

Soak your wooden skewers in water. Leave the skewers in cold water for two to three hours before making your barbecued shrimp.

Step 2

Create your own marinade using honey, garlic and Italian dressing and mixing together in a bowl. Pour half of the marinade over the shrimp and reserve the other half. Cover the shrimp with plastic wrap and put in the refrigerator.

Step 3

Soak a paper towel in vegetable oil. Rub the vegetable oil over the grill grates.

Step 4

Preheat your grill to medium heat.

Step 5

Remove the shrimp from the refrigerator after 30 minutes. Take shrimp out of the marinade and arrange on the wooden skewers. Arrange the shrimp into a "U" shape and pierce both sides as you place them on the skewer.

Step 6

Place the shrimp on skewers directly over the heat source. Cook the shrimp uncovered for approximately one minute on each side.

Step 7

Baste with the remaining marinade. Heat the shrimp for another three to four minutes. Repeat basting two to three times during the remaining cooking time.

Step 8

Remove the shrimp once they have turned a pink color and the tops are a golden brown. Take the shrimp off of the skewers and serve.

Tips and Warnings

  • Garnishes such as oregano leaves can be used on the shrimp once you have removed them from the barbecue. Any type of barbecue sauce may also be used to baste the shrimp while grilling.
