Belly fat can be stubborn to lose. Because you are not able to specifically target weight loss to one area of your body, getting rid of unwanted stomach fat can present quite a challenge. As a result, you might resort to diet supplements. According to MayoClinic.com, dietary supplements and over-the-counter diet pills offer the appeal of losing weight quickly, but are often unsafe. To lose belly fat with a supplement, you will need to find a safe supplement and implement a regular diet and exercise program.
Step 1
Talk to your doctor about prescription diet pills and supplements. According to MayoClinic.com, prescription diet supplements go through much stricter Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, testing than over-the-counter diet supplements.
Step 2
Look for an FDA-approved over-the-counter diet supplement. Visit the FDA's website for the most recent updates on safe and unsafe supplements.
Step 3
Check expiration dates. Dietary supplements lose their potency over time. To maintain the effectiveness of a diet supplement, store your supplements in cool, dry places. Throw expired supplements away.
Step 4
Eat a healthy, well-balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, lean meats, low-fat dairy and whole grains. A well-balanced diet can help reduce your need for a diet supplement.
Step 5
Plan to engage in regular cardiovascular exercise. For weight loss, the National Academy of Sports Medicine recommends 60 to 90 minutes of cardiovascular exercise five days per week. Choose an activity or two you enjoy. Try swimming, sports, jogging, brisk walking, aerobics, dancing, cycling, jumping rope or gardening.
Step 6
Burn calories and tone your belly with strength training exercises. Perform body weight exercises, or calisthenics, including pushups, situps, planks and crunches. Complete exercises in one set of 20 repetitions for each exercise. The National Academy of Sports Medicine recommends 30-minute strength training sessions, two to three days per week.
