Next to water, tea is the most widely consumed beverage on the planet, with millions of gallons of leaves brewed and served annually. Of the three types of teas --- green, black and oolong --- green tea is recognized as being the most beneficial from a health standpoint. Due to green tea's high concentration of anti-oxidative enzymes known as polyphenols, extract from green tea leaves can be used to combat certain cancer-causing free radicals. Proper daily dosage may be the key in prevent certain types of cancers.

Step 1

Purchase green tea extract in concentrated, 400 mg capsule form or in liquid form, which is generally available in 8 oz. bottles. The cost for each will range between $8 to $15, depending on the store and the brand name you choose. Due to the high concentration of the extract, be advised that a considerable amount of caffeine is present, so if you're sensitive to caffeine, the liquid form is recommended because you can divide your dosage.

Step 2

Take one capsule as directed on the product's label, despite the fact that two capsules are directed for adults of average height and weight. As of 2011, studies were inconclusive concerning ingesting too much extract, but due to the caffeine content, gauge your level of sensitivity. If you have marked excitability, nervousness, intestinal discomfort or uneasiness, switch to liquid extract form.

Step 3

Fill the dropper from the bottle halfway with extract and empty it into warm water or, provided you can stand the bitter taste, place it directly underneath your tongue. To alleviate the bitter taste, immediately sip some sweet juice or eat a teaspoon of honey. If you're sensitive to caffeine, take half of the dose with breakfast and the other half around lunchtime to reduce the side-effect but still ingest the recommended amount.
