Using a punching bag as part of your workout has several benefits. It provides an aerobic workout, increases strength and stamina, and is a safe outlet for those stressful days that seem to want to take you down. If you're a boxer, using a punching bag helps improve your accuracy and technique. If you're hanging a punching bag yourself, make sure that it's secure or you could injure yourself or break something in the room. Using an eye hook helps ensure that the bag is fastened tightly to your ceiling so you can give it the toughest punches that you have.

Step 1

Turn on the stud finder and follow the instructions that came with it to find a floor joist or beam in the ceiling near the center of the room. Ensure that the area around your preferred location is clear so that when the punching bag swings it won't hit anything.

Step 2

Use the drill to drill a hole through the ceiling into the floor joist or beam in your preferred location. The drill bit that you use should be slightly smaller than the diameter of the screw on the eye hook.

Step 3

Insert the point of the eye hook into the hole in the ceiling and turn it with your fingers until it's stuck in the ceiling.

Step 4

Insert the tip of the screwdriver through the hole of the eye hook and use the metal as leverage to tighten the eye hook. Position the eye hook halfway down the length of the screwdriver; twist the screwdriver to the right to help turn the screw. Continue turning the eye hook with the screwdriver until none of the threads on the screw are visible.

Step 5

Insert the S hook that's attached to the chains on your punching bag into the center of the eye hook. Pull down on the bag firmly and give it a few gentle practice punches to ensure that it's secure.
