Xenical is a prescription weight loss drug containing 120 mg of orlistat, which blocks the absorption of one-third of the fat from food. The product label states that Xenical is indicated for obesity management including weight loss and maintenance when used in conjunction with a reduced low-calorie diet and to reduce risk for weight regain after prior weight loss. Consult your doctor about a low-calorie diet plan for weight loss with Xenical.
Breakfast
A typical low-calorie breakfast while on Xenical can include a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice and cup of low-fat fruit yogurt with steel cut oatmeal. Choose from either low-fat dairy yogurt or soy yogurt. Low-fat dairy yogurt is a good source of protein, calcium and probiotics, such as Lactobacillus acidophilus, an intestinal friendly bacterium. Soy yogurt is made from soybeans, a legume that contains a complete protein of all the essential amino acids, as well as healthy fats, calcium, antioxidants called isoflavones and Lactobacillus acidophilus. Xenical works best when you consume fat in your meal, so it is important you do not choose a yogurt that does not contain any fat. Steel cut oatmeal is a whole grain that is a good source of fiber.
Lunch
A nutritious low-calorie lunch includes a bowl of vegetarian split pea soup and large salad with grilled chicken breast. Peas are a legume and a good source of fiber. Your salad can include mixed green lettuces, tomatoes, cucumber, celery, green beans, carrots, beets and garbanzo beans and avocado, topped off with dressing made from olive oil and balsamic vinegar dressing. Olive oil and avocados contain monounsaturated fatty acids, a healthy fat that can help you lose weight. Research by scientists at Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education in South Africa and published in "Nutrition" in January 2005 found that consumption of 200 g per day of avocado within a calorie-restricted diet does not compromise weight loss when used instead of 30 g of mixed dietary fat.
Dinner
For dinner, enjoy baked halibut with brown rice and steamed asparagus. Halibut contains omega-3 fatty acids, healthy fats that may help reduce your risk of heart disease. People who are overweight or obese have a higher risk of heart disease. Brown rice is a whole grain that contains more nutrients than white rice, a refined grain. Increasing whole-grain intake is associated with lower visceral fat in adults, whereas a higher intake of refined grains is associated with higher visceral fat, according to the research by scientists at the USDA and Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts and published in "The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition" in November 2010.
Snacks
Pistachio nuts and strawberries are healthy snacks that can help you lose weight. Research by scientists at the University of California at Los Angeles and published in the "Journal of the American College of Nutrition" in June 2010 indicates that pistachios are a good snack for individuals restricting calories to lose weight. Strawberries are a good source of antioxidants.
