Frozen spinach is a flavorful alternative to fresh spinach and can be used in different recipes. Although some nutrients and vitamins are lost in frozen spinach, for economic reasons or if spinach is not currently in season, frozen spinach can still be a healthy option. Some people prefer to use frozen spinach in their recipes because of the ease and convenience. It is simple to use frozen spinach in almost all your dishes.

Step 1

Find out how much spinach you will need. Generally one 10-oz. box of frozen spinach can be a substitute for one bag of fresh spinach.

Step 2

Set your frozen spinach out overnight or leave in the refrigerator. The spinach should be thawed completely by the time you are ready to use it.

Step 3

Open the box of spinach when unfrozen and place in a strainer. Squeeze the spinach to remove all the excess water. You will have to squeeze the spinach several times to remove all of the liquid.

Step 4

Place a skillet with olive oil and heat over low heat. Add chopped garlic and cook for one minute or until the garlic becomes brown.

Step 5

Add the drained and thawed spinach. Cook, covered, over medium-low heat until spinach becomes wilted. Using your recipe as a guideline, incorporate the spinach into any easy dish that calls for it, such as enchiladas, quiche or dips.
