Side Effects of Diflucon

Diflucan, generically sold as fluconazole, is used to treat fungal infections of the mouth, throat, blood, genitals, lungs or bladder. According to Drugs.com, inform your doctor if you suffer from heart, liver or kidney problems as these can seriously interfere with Diflucan's effectiveness. Take this medication as your doctor prescribes to prevent side effects.

Liver Damage

According to RxList.com, Diflucan can cause liver damage known as hepatotoxicity. Natural enzymes (chemicals) in your liver such as alanine aminotransferase or aspartate aminotransferase can be elevated. This elevation might be an indication of increasing liver destruction. Some symptoms of hepatotoxicity include nausea, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes) and stomach pain. Usually, this damage is reversible when you stop Diflucan.

Serious Side Effects

Diflucan can jeopardize your health and lead to symptoms such as nausea, low fever, dark urine and clay-colored stools, according to Drugs.com. It can also cause body discomfort, aches and chills. Sometimes, bruising and bleeding as well as weakness and convulsions can develop. Seek immediate medical attention if these symptoms persist and/or worsen.

Anaphylaxis

According to RxList.com, an anaphylactic (an allergic) response to Diflucan is rare. Symptoms of an anaphylactic reaction include itching all over your body, swelling of your face and increased difficulty breathing. In the occurrence of an anaphylactic reaction, seek immediate medical assistance.

Overdose

Taking too much Diflucan can lead to serious side effects. You might experience confusion or strange thoughts or behaviors, according to Drugs.com. Seek immediate medical attention in the event of an overdose.
