Many people looking to lose weight seek out the diet plans of celebrities who look trim and toned. Celebrities are expected to look a certain way for a living, and hence many follow strict or specific regimens to keep them in shape. Although effective in shedding pounds, many of these diets may be considered fad diets as they are low in calories or lack essential nutrients for long-term health. Consult with a health professional prior to initiating a new diet or exercise regimen to ensure it meets your individual needs.

The Zone

Celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston and Sandra Bullock have been associated with The Zone Diet plan in the past. Developed by Dr. Barry Sears, the Zone Diet involves getting 40 percent of your daily total caloric intake from carbohydrates, 30 percent from carbs and 30 percent from fats. According to ZoneDiet.com, balancing the correct amount of amino acids with carbs helps to control the appetite to prevent over-eating that leads to weight gain.

Sugar Busters Diet

The Sugar Busters diet is another well-known plan that has been followed by celebs such as Sharon Stone in the past. This plan may aid in weight-loss as it reduces calories and reduces consumption of simple carbohydrates and sugars. It is a healthier alternative to many low-carb or no-sugar diets that eliminate naturally occurring sugars from fruits and vegetables as well. Sugar Busters does allow consumption of certain low-sugar fruits and whole grains to satisfy a sweet tooth.

Atkins Diet

Celeb followers of the Atkins Diet have included Courtney Thorne-Smith and Geri Halliwell from The Spice Girls. This low-carb, high-protein/fat diet will help shed excess weight quickly, typically in the form of water weight initially. However, side effects of a low-carb diet may include dizziness, fatigue, difficulty concentrating and mood swings. Furthermore, the high fat content in this diet from eating meat, butter and eggs could contribute to the risk of heart disease and stroke.

South Beach Diet

The South Beach Diet has been followed by notable celebs including Bill and Hilary Clinton and Jessica Simpson. This diet plan is a healthier approach to weight-loss than other low-carb plans such as the Atkins diet since it encourages complex carbohydrates to stabilize blood sugar levels and provide energy. South Beach creator Dr. Agaston differentiates between the consumption of good and bad types of carbs and fats for a healthy body.
