You may need to adjust the walking belt on your ProForm treadmill every so often; it's natural for its tension to slip slightly through continued use. Make sure you hold onto the hex key or Allen wrench that came with the machine originally, since it's the only tool you need to make adjustments. If you lose it, you'll have to locate a replacement. Usually, these few simple adjustments are all you need do to fix any treadmill belt issues you may be having.
Step 1
Turn off and unplug the treadmill before adjusting the belt or trying to lift the belt to gauge its tension.
Step 2
Locate the rear roller bolts. These bolts are sunk into the rear of the treadmill frame, directly on either side of the treadmill belt. They should be visible if you look at the treadmill from behind. You'll need the hex key that came with the treadmill, or a replacement, to adjust the bolts.
Step 3
Loosen both rear roller bolts by turning them 1/4 turn in a counterclockwise direction if the belt slows when you walk on it. This indicates the belt may be too tight. Another way of testing whether the belt is too tight is by sliding both hands underneath it--one on either side--and lifting gently. If the belt doesn't come up at least 3 inches, it's too tight.
Step 4
Tighten the belt by turning both bolts 1/4 turn clockwise. This will remedy if the belt keeps slipping during use; you can also judge whether the belt should be tightened by whether it comes up higher than 4 inches from the treadmill deck when gently pulled.
Step 5
Adjust only the left roller bolt if the treadmill belt has slipped to one side. If the belt has slipped to the left, turn the left roller bolt clockwise by 1/2 turn. If the belt has slipped to the right, turn the right roller bolt counterclockwise by the same amount.
