Wrinkles are a natural part of the aging process and is due to the loss of elasticity in the skin. Damage from environmental elements can also cause wrinkles to appear on the face. These elements include sun damage and smoking. You may want to try some less-invasive methods to improve the wrinkles on your face before moving onto more expensive and involved treatment methods.
Step 1
Try a wrinkle cream. Look for wrinkle creams that contain retinoid and alpha hydroxy acids. These two ingredients can help reduce the appearance of fine lines on the face. There are prescription-based wrinkle creams, like Retin-A and Tazorac, or you can try an over-the-counter cream. Some examples of non-prescription wrinkle creams include Epicuren Anti-Wrinkle Cream and RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Cream.
Step 2
Wear sunscreen when you are outdoors. Using sunscreen with a SPF of 15 or more can help prevent more wrinkles from appearing and worsening the current ones on your face. You can also use hats to protect your face from the sun.
Step 3
Wear a moisturizer. Keeping your skin well hydrated can diminish the appearance of wrinkles. Any type of moisturizer can help mask the wrinkles. Keep the skin hydrated by drinking plenty of water, ideally six to eight glasses daily.
Step 4
Meet with a plastic surgeon or dermatologist to discuss the options to get rid of the wrinkles on your face. Fillers, such as Botox, can be injected into the face as a way to smooth away wrinkles temporarily. Dermabrasion and microdermabrasion resurface the top layers of the skin to decrease the appearance of wrinkles. Laser therapy will involve applying a concentrated laser to the wrinkled area to destroy the top layer of skin. A facelift tightens the skin of the face to get rid of the wrinkles on the face. Keep in mind that these procedures can be expensive and multiple treatments may be needed.
