Bodyboarding is a prominent offshoot of extreme surfing. Bodyboarders utilize a compact board made of foam to execute high-speed maneuvers across the face of breaking waves. As opposed to the riding stance employed by conventional surfers, bodyboarders lay with their stomach across the top of the board to decrease wind resistance. Bodyboarders often wear scuba fins to propel themselves through the water at a high rate of speed. When executing the 360 spin, the bodyboard experts at Saltwater-Dreaming recommend lifting your feet out of the water to prevent drag.
Step 1
Lower your stomach onto the deck of the bodyboard. Wrap your hands around the nose or front end of the bodyboard. Kick your feet through the water to paddle out past the breaking waves.
Step 2
Rotate the bodyboard in the water until the nose points toward the beach. Turn your head to look for a breaking wave in the distance. Paddle forward as the wave approaches.
Step 3
Bend your arms at a 45-degree angle as the wave propels you across the water. Kick your flippers through the water for increased speed. Lean onto your left or right elbow to carve up the face of the wave.
Step 4
Pull up on the nose of the bodyboard as you ascend the breaking wave. Rotate your shoulders quickly as you reach the apex of the wave. Lift your feet out of the water to allow the bodyboard to spin.
Step 5
Lower your flippers into the water as you complete a 360-degree rotation. Lean forward as you glide down the face of the wave. Practice the bodyboard 360 until you can land the maneuver consistently.
