In the early days of the sport, the snowboard binding consisted of thick leather straps that fastened your boots to the top of the board. As the sport of snowboarding continued to progress, the technology of the equipment gradually improved. As of 2011, snowboard bindings feature a lightweight design made from carbon fiber or metallic alloys. According to the snowboard experts at REI, a series of mounting screws allow you to attach the binding to the top of the snowboard.

Step 1

Lower the underside of your snowboard onto a flat work table. Choose the snowboard binding that corresponds with your lead foot. Remove the circular base plate from the foot bed of the binding.

Step 2

Align the binding over the center most mounting holes located at the front of the snowboard. Rotate the binding to the desired angle to ensure a comfortable riding stance. Lower the base plate into the foot bed of the snowboard binding.

Step 3

Insert four mounting screws through the base plate and into the mounting holes. Rotate the mounting screws clockwise with a Phillips head screwdriver to secure the binding to the top of the snowboard. Repeat the mounting process with your back binding.

Step 4

Align your boots over the base plates of the bindings. Tighten the retention straps to fasten your boots in place. Examine the width and angle of your stance to ensure it corresponds with your riding style.

Step 5

Rotate the mounting screws counterclockwise to adjust the position of the bindings. Carry a compact snowboard tool on the slopes for easy adjustments or repairs. Check the tightness of the mounting screws before each ride.
