A leg lifter is an assistive device that helps you raise your foot off the floor when you are unable to do it on your own. Leg lifters are useful for stepping in an out of an automobile or lifting your foot into the footrest of a wheel chair. The device is a rod with a large loop on one end, for your foot, and a smaller loop on the other end to assist with the lift. You can find these devices online or at medical supply stores.
Step 1
Sit in a secure position to prevent falling over.
Step 2
Slide the larger loop over the foot of the leg you need to lift. The sole of your foot should rest in the bottom of the loop.
Step 3
Slide the opposite arm through the smaller loop. For example, if you are raising your left leg, slide your right arm through the loop.
Step 4
Grab the rod approximately halfway down the length of the device with your other hand. Pull up with both arms to lift your foot.
