According to health journalist, Cal Orey, author of "The Healing Powers of Vinegar," apple cider vinegar has many properties that help heal many conditions. The fermented juice from apples contains a variety of minerals as well as trace elements such as magnesium, potassium, calcium, and others as well as fiber and pectin. These properties may confer health benefits, but speak to your physician before adding apple cider vinegar to your diet.
Joint Pain
Natural News, an online natural health database states that apple cider vinegar, or ACV, can help with joint pain. Some people who suffer from joint pain have a mineral deficiency. These deficiencies have a tendency to worsen joint pain and ingesting apple cider vinegar may help with these deficiencies. In addition, apple cider vinegar has potassium that may help calcium deposits that occur in joints. The best way to ingest is to be certain you have unprocessed and unfiltered apple cider vinegar and mix up to 3 tbsp. into a cup of water. Adapting to the taste may take a while to get used to and adding a sweetener like honey can make it more palatable.
Diabetes
D.C. Jarvis, a medical doctor and author of "Folk Medicine," states that ACV can help Type 2 diabetes by lowering glucose levels. It is speculated that the apple cider vinegar's enzymes break down carbohydrates. Jarvis recommends 2 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar before bed with a little honey in a cup of water. If a high carbohydrate meal is planned, drink an 8 oz. glass of water with 2 tbsp. of ACV and honey before the meal.
Diarrhea
According to Earl Mindell, M.D., author of "Amazing Apple Cider Vinegar" and biochemist, ACV can restore bowels back to health. This is because the pectin in the vinegar can be an affective antidiarrheal remedy as it can help by adding bulk to stools making them firm. Pectin is effective against several types of bacteria that can create diarrhea. For best results mix 2 tbsp. of unfiltered apple cider vinegar in 1 cup of water and drink three times a day.
Acid Reflux
Acid reflux is quickly becoming a health issue and apple cider vinegar can offer long-term relief. According to Daniel Kray, senior editor for Earth Clinic and author of "Apple Cider Vinegar: A Modern Folk Remedy," apple cider vinegar can help reduce acid reflux due to its alkalinity. Alkalinity helps balance the pH within the stomach. It also fights acid with acid. It is best to use ACV before each meal and put 3 tbsp. of the natural unfiltered vinegar in 1 cup of water. Honey can be added to assist with the taste.
