Unlike televised "professional" wrestling, pinning an opponent in competitive wrestling doesn't require the use of folding chairs, a 2-by-4 or the assistance of a mysterious masked fighter. To pin an opponent and win the match, you must position both of your opponents shoulders onto the mat at the same time. There are a number of different ways to pin your opponent, but the most basic maneuver is the classic half-nelson.
Step 1
Start with your opponent facing downward on his belly.
Step 2
Get on top of your opponent's back and keep all of your weight on her back to help keep her down on the mat.
Step 3
Push your opponent's head down from the top of the head and bring your other arm under your opponent's armpit and place that arm's hand on the top of his head.
Step 4
Roll the hip closest to the lock down and over onto the mat so that your are now laying on your side with your chest facing your opponents feet while keeping your upper body's weight on your opponent's back.
Step 5
Push forward on the mat using your feet and slowly roll your opponent over while keeping the half-nelson grip locked. Your opponent's head should now be cradled in your armpit.
Step 6
Roll through the lock until your opponent is completely flat on her back. Press down on her shoulders, using your arms until both of her shoulder's are touching the mat for the pin.
Tips and Warnings
- When reaching in for the half-nelson, you can also grab your opponent's wrist and bring it in with the lock to further immobilize him during the maneuver.
