According to D'Adamo, you are linked to your ancestors by your blood type. In his 1996 book, "Eat Right 4 Your Type: The Individualized Diet Solution to Staying Healthy, Living Longer & Achieving Your Ideal Weight," D'Adamo explains the dietary guidelines that he believes people belonging to the type B blood group should follow, including detailed menus and food restrictions. Before beginning the type B blood group diet, speak to your doctor -- reputable medical institutions do not support the program as a healthy method for sustainable weight loss.
Diet Guidelines
D'Adamo claims that people with the type B blood type are descended from ancient migratory groups originating in India. They are, he says, able to eat both plant and animal products in moderation, unlike people belonging to other blood groups. D'Adamo recommends that type B individuals focus their diets on meats like rabbit, lamb, goat and mutton; eggs; low-fat dairy products, including cheeses like ricotta and mozzarella; and olive oil. He advises that they can drink some wine and beer and should regularly take magnesium and licorice supplements, but should avoid chicken, all wheat and corn products, processed foods, tomatoes, lentils, distilled alcohol and nuts.The MayoClinic.com, however, advises that no reputable, independent scientific evidence exists that supports the safety or effectiveness of any diet centered around eating certain foods based on your particular blood type.
Breakfast Plans
A typical breakfast on the Type B Blood Group diet usually consists of juice coupled with cereal, fruit and skim milk. The fruits considered most beneficial for type B people include grapes, cranberries, pineapple, plums, papayas and bananas. A cereal of rice bran with a banana and unsweetened grape juice is one possible option; others might include puffed rice with goat's milk or porridge prepared with one part water and one part skim milk. D'Adamo also recommends type B individuals should consume for breakfast what he calls a fluidizer cocktail, a combination of flaxseed oil, lecithin granules and your choice of fruit juice.
Lunch Plans
D'Adamo recommends that people on the Type B Blood Group diet consume a lunch made up of items like a simple green salad, herbal tea and a sandwich of thinly sliced turkey, cheese and bread spread with a small amount of mayonnaise and mustard. Other lunch options could include a slice of whole grain bread with approximately 1/2 cup of water-packed tuna fish or a baked potato coupled with cottage cheese and a salad.
Dinner Plans
A typical dinner for type B individuals following the blood group diet might consist of steamed vegetables, vegetables roasted with herbs or mashed vegetables like mashed potatoes; broiled fish like cod, halibut, salmon, sea trout or sole; brown rice; shish kebabs made with alternating chunks of lamb and peppers; fruit; green salads or slaws like coleslaw; tea or coffee. Vegetable omelets are another good choice for people on the Type B Blood Group diet. According to D'Adamo, type B individuals should focus on vegetables like broccoli, sweet potatoes, eggplants, kale, mushrooms, cabbage and beets.
