Juicing has a history dating back to 150 B.C., according to Carole Jacobs' in her book "The Everything Juicing Book." In ancient days, people believed juice had healing powers, while today, Jacobs says juicing enables you to enjoy fresh juice from whole, natural vegetables and fruits. Celery, because of its high water content, makes a healthy, nutritious juice.

Low in Calories

Raw celery contains 8 calories in a half cup, while the same amount of celery juice has about 40 calories. Celery juice contains 21 fewer calories per half cup than orange juice, and five fewer calories than carrot juice, according to the USDA Nutrient Data Laboratory. If you use celery juice as part of your weight management strategy, the juice can help you keep your calorie intake low and leave adequate calories for other foods.

Macronutrient Benefits

Celery juice can benefit you if you are following a low-carbohydrate or a low-fat diet, as a half cup contains just 5 g of carbs and no fat. MayoClinic.com indicates that many low-carb diets recommend keeping your carb intake between 50 and 150 g. While your body does need fat for health, the American Heart Association recommends that healthy adults eat 25 to 35 percent of their total daily calories from fat.

Healthy Calories

Whether you juice your own celery in a home juicer or purchase celery juice at a specialty food store, you know that the juice contains only natural, raw ingredients. Incorporating more raw food into your diet can help you increase the number of vegetables and fruits you eat each day. The 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans indicate that most Americans eat too many calories from fats, consume too much sodium and eat an excess of foods with refined grains and white sugar. Drinking 1 cup of celery juice gives you 1/3 of your vegetable requirement for the day, if you eat a 2,000-calorie diet.

Mixes Well

Celery juice has a mild, distinctive flavor that mixes well with other vegetables and fruits. If you juice two stalks of celery, a half apple and some raw spinach together, you have consumed one serving of fruit and vegetables, at just 95 calories. Other ways to use celery juice include adding the juice to hummus, mixing it with olive oil and vinegar for a salad dressing or using the juice in vegetable soups. Celery juice helps tone down the flavor of stronger vegetables when juiced with radishes, onions or garlic.

Health Benefits

Celery and its juice contain nutrients that might help you avoid some cancers, says Karen Collins, registered dietitian for the American Institute for Cancer Research. Consuming celery gives you the phytochemical apigenin, as well as phthalides. Collins indicates that apigenin might help in the "self-destruction" of cells that damage your body, and phthalide consumption might help prevent cancer and improve the health status of your blood vessels.
