Trek has been manufacturing bikes and riding gear since the mid 1970s. Trek offers a multitude of mountain bikes to meet the needs of avid off-road riders. The 4300 and 3900 are two signature mountain bike models made by Trek Bikes. While these two mountain bikes may appear similar to the untrained eye, they feature subtle differences in style and design.

Intended Terrain

Both the Trek 4300 and 3900 are defined as hardtail mountain bikes. As opposed to dual-suspension models, the Trek 4300 and 3900 are not equipped with a series of rear shocks. Hardtail mountain bikes are made for narrow trails known as single-tracks. According to MTO Bikes, the hardtail mountain bike provides increased pedaling efficiency and speed capabilities during steep climbs. The rigid design of the 4300 and 3900 mountain bike allows you to easily transfer energy to the pedals.

Frame

The durable frame of the Trek 4300 and 3900 can withstand rough trails that are embedded with protruding rocks and roots. According to Trek Bikes, the 4300 model's frame is constructed with a lightweight material known as Alpha Black Aluminum. The 3900 mountain bike frame is designed with Alpha White Aluminum and features a semi-integrated head tube. While the 4300 frame is offered in a matte bronze and glossy black finish, the 3900 frame features a matte black and dark blue finish.

Features

The 4300 and 3900 mountain bikes from Trek are equipped with a set of standard sized 26-inch tires that can adapt to numerous trail conditions. While the 4300 is equipped with a conventional cantilever brake system, the 3900 is outfitted with a high-powered disc brake system for increased stopping efficiency. Both the 4300 and 3900 feature a suspension fork that allows the front wheel to travel up and down while riding over bumps in the trail.

Sizes

To accommodate the statures of beginner, intermediate and expert bikers, Trek offers the 4300 and 3900 in a multitude of size options. Trek measures the size of the mountain bike frame based on the length of the vertical seat tube. According to Trek Bikes, the largest 3900 mountain bike frame features a seat tube that measures in at 22.5-inches. The largest 4300 mountain bike frame is equipped with a 24-inch seat tube for riders with an above average inseam.
