Every human body contains fungus. Although many forms are beneficial, others can multiply and cause infections. Jock itch is a fungal infection in the groin area. It is most common in adolescent boys and men, according to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, and it may be triggered by prolonged moisture, such as from sweat, or friction from clothing. In addition to topical creams and proper hygiene, dietary changes may help reduce your symptoms, which typically include skin redness, bumps and itching.

Fruits and Vegetables

Although jock itch is usually not serious, it may become serious if you have a weak immune system, according to Mayo Clinic. Antioxidants, which are prevalent in fruits and vegetables, support your immune system's ability to resist and heal from infections. Particularly antioxidant-rich varieties include berries, cherries, citrus fruits, tomatoes, leafy greens, broccoli, bell peppers, Brussels sprouts and squash.

Whole Grains

If you are prone to jock itch, athlete's foot or other fungal infections, you may have candidiasis, according to physician and author of "The Yeast Connection Handbook," Dr. William Crook. Candiasis is an infection caused by overgrowth of the yeast-like fungus, candida, which can affect the groin. Crook recommends replacing low-nutrient foods, such as white bread and sweets, with whole grains as a useful dietary step toward minimizing fungal infections. Nutritious examples include oats, barley, brown rice, wild rice, quinoa and air-popped popcorn. When purchasing breads, cereals and pasta, check food packaging to ensure that whole grains are listed as main ingredients.

Yogurt and Kefir

Yogurt and kefir are cultured dairy products that contain beneficial, or "friendly," bacteria known as probiotics. Although research findings are mixed, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center, probiotics help restore bacterial balance in the intestinal tract and may inhibit candida buildup. For best potential results, consume yogurt or kefir containing live-active cultures, such as Lactobacillus acidophilus or bifidobacterium, on a routine basis. For added antioxidant benefits, top yogurt with fresh, colorful fruit.

Anti-Fungal Spices

Spices, such as cinnamon, oregano, sage and cloves, have anti-fungal properties, according to the UMMC, and help protect you from candida infections. Season oatmeal and baked goods with cinnamon and cloves and season meats, rice, pasta dishes, soups and tomato sauce with oregano and sage. Seasoning dishes with fresh, chopped or dried garlic may also provide fungus-reducing benefits.
