Macadamia nut oil is a clear, light-amber liquid expressed from the nut of the Australian macadamia tree. Rich in monounsaturated fatty acids, this oil is often used for cooking in place of olive or vegetable oil. In addition to nutritional uses, macadamia nut oil boasts several health and beauty benefits.

Antioxidant

Macadamia nut oil contains high levels of squaline, a natural chemical compound that serves as an antioxidant in the body. Squaline protects your skin from damage caused by free radicals; the oil prevents sunburn because of its high level of Vitamin E. The antioxidant properties in macadamia nut oil help decrease your risk for prostate, cervical, breast, lung and stomach cancer.

Nutrition

The USDA states that macadamia nuts are a rich source of important nutrients. One cup provides 10.6 grams of protein, 11.5 grams of fiber, 1.6 mg of Vitamin C and 3.3 mg of Niacin. Cooking with macadamia nut oil -- or using it on salads -- is a low-cholesterol option.

Cholesterol

Macadamia nut oil contains high levels of monounsaturated oil, the most heart-healthy oil available. It is rich in Omega-3 and Omega-6, which help regulate your cholesterol by lowering LDL cholesterol and increasing HDL cholesterol. Maintaining a healthy level of cholesterol is essential in preventing heart disease.

Skin Care

Another benefit of macadamia nut oil is its ability to hydrate your skin. The oil is rich in palmitoleic acid, an Omega-7, monounsaturated fat that moisturizes and protects human skin. The lightweight, non-greasy feel of this oil makes it a common ingredient in cosmetics and moisturizers. The same hydrating properties make macadamia nut oil popular in hair products.
