Football -- or soccer, as it is known in the United States -- features two opposing teams that fight their way across a field with a ball, hoping to kick it into the other team's goal. All this is done with no hands, for the most part: Only feet and body are allowed to touch the ball. With such limits placed on the ball's driver, it might not be hard to understand that many tricks are employed to fend off or "psych out" oncoming rival team members. One is called the step-over.

Step 1

Dribble the ball, going straight and slowly as you approach the opponent. Going too fast might cause a fumble on the precision needed for this trick.

Step 2

Decide which direction the illusion is to be executed. This will determine which foot is to be used; for example, the left foot would be used to fake a left and the right foot to fake a right.

Step 3

Cross the corresponding foot over the other and bring it around the ball in a counterclockwise motion, never actually touching the ball and landing where it started. The opposite foot is firmly on the ground and used to balance the body. For example, when attempting a fake to the left, the right foot is used to balance the body while the left foot circles around the ball. The left foot should ultimately end up where it started, behind the ball.

Step 4

Shift your body weight to the left foot once it hits the ground and use the the right foot to kick the ball to the right, using the outer right side of the foot. The opponent's reflexes will urge him on in this direction, when in reality the ball is being driven in the opposite direction.

Tips and Warnings
