The Brown Rice Diet is a detox diet intended to help dieters lose weight and cleanse the body of accumulated waste products. Detoxifications are believed to increase functioning of the body's internal organs by eliminating harmful toxins that contribute to headaches, fatigue and weight gain. The nutritional content of brown rice makes it a healthy addition to a detox diet as it is low in harder-to-digest protein and fats. Consult with a physician prior to initiating a new diet plan to ensure it is safe for your individual needs.
Complex Carb
Brown rice is nutritionally superior to white rice, a simple carbohydrate, as it is not stripped of its husk and nutrients during the milling process. This complex carb is a source of dietary fiber and essential vitamins and minerals such as the B vitamins that aid in energy metabolism. Fiber helps with weight-loss as it provides a steady source of energy to the body and stabilizes blood sugar levels. This prevents rises in hunger levels that lead to over-eating.
Improved Digestion
Brown rice is a healthy addition to typical detox diets that consist mostly of fruits, vegetables and drinks that can leave you unsatisfied. The additional fiber content helps improve digestion by moving foods and waste materials through the body faster for elimination. The removal of waste and undigested foods decreases digestive upsets such as constipation, bloating and flatulence. Furthermore, it decreases the risk of serious illnesses such as colon cancer.
The Diet
The Brown Rice Diet permits brown rice as its only starch, but also includes a variety of fruits and vegetables. Caffeine, alcohol and processed foods, such as candy bars and sugary cereals, are eliminated from the diet to avoid over-taxing the body's organs from associated toxins. The diet also permits small portions of vegetarian foods that are high in protein to supplement the diet. Legumes, beans and tofu are high-protein and more easily digested than heavier animal products that are typically higher in fat or have potential toxins from injected hormones.
Meal Plan
A sample daily menu of The Brown Rice Diet may include lemon water in the morning followed by a breakfast of 1 cup each of raw fruit and steamed brown rice eaten 30 minutes apart. This allows the body time to digest its food properly. Lunch may consist of a 4-oz. serving of legumes or tofu with 1 cup each of raw vegetables and leafy, green vegetables, lightly steamed. Dinner includes a cup of brown rice with a cup of cooked vegetables and unlimited amounts of raw vegetables. Water and herbal tea is also consumed throughout the day.
