False eyelashes, also known as fake eyelashes, are small clusters of synthetic or human hair that is glued together to make an eyelash that can be placed on in small sections or as an entire piece that covers the natural lash line. Although false eyelashes can improve the look of your eyes and make your lashes seem longer and thicker, they can also cause eye infections and allergic reactions if they are not used properly.
Pros: Accentuating Natural Eyelashes
False eyelashes can be used for individuals who have thin or short eyelashes along with mascara to thicken the look of eyelashes. Incorporating small, individual lash sections with tweezers to your eyelash line will create a more natural look than adding a full set of eyelashes over your own. By trimming your false eyelashes to a length that matches your natural eyelashes, then dotting a small amount of glue on the lash line, you can create a foundation for your lashes that will last all day. The false eyelashes can then be applied to the glue using tweezers. The finished product is a completely undetectable way to make eyelashes look thicker and longer.
Pros: Creating a Bold Look
If you are going to a Halloween party or would like a bolder, more drastic look, use false eyelashes that stretch across the entire length of the lash line. A full false lash will not provide the natural, undetectable look that false eyelash sections provide, but it will create a bold lash line that will create the appearance of drastically longer lashes whether you are standing on a stage or at a dark party. Rather than applying the glue to your eyelid, the eyelash glue can be applied directly to the false eyelash, then pressed onto the lash line.
Cons: Infections
False eyelashes are a temporary way to increase the length and thickness of eyelashes, but they are not a permanent or everyday solution to thin and short eyelashes. Wearing false eyelashes to bed or for more than one day can cause bacteria to collect under the eyelash glue and on the false eyelash, causing eye infections. If the eyelash is not removed carefully and the eyelid is not cleaned with eye-makeup remover after use, infection is possible, even if the eyelash is not worn overnight. False eyelashes should be worn as sparingly as possible to prevent infections and eye injuries. Additionally, false eyelashes and eyelash glue should not be shared, as many eye infections, like conjunctivitis and eye sties, are contagious and can be passed by sharing eye products.
Cons: Allergic Reactions
False eyelashes and eyelash glue contain chemicals that may cause an adverse reaction in some individuals. Like any makeup, eyelash glue should be tested on the wrist or back of the hand 24 hours before use on the eyes. If there is a red mark, rash or the skin swells around the test area, the product should not be used.
