How to Lose Weight Like a Model

The media focuses on tall, thin models, but for most people, the goal of looking "model thin" is an unrealistic and dangerous dream. The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) notes that a female model weighs about 23 percent less than the average woman, which would put the model under a healthy weight. Being underweight has serious health consequences, including the possibility of being malnourished. As such, it is important to focus on reaching a healthful weight instead of trying to get as thin as most models.

Step 1

Cut your daily calorie intake to 1,000 calories. This will help you lose weight at a healthful rate of 1 to 2 lbs. per week. You can do this by eating low calorie snacks instead of high calorie snacks. For example, eat an apple instead of chocolate chip cookies.

Step 2

Drink green tea to lose weight. Pennington Biomedical Research Center states that catechins aid in weight loss. Green tea contains a considerable amount of catechins and is believed to help a dieter decrease food intake.

Step 3

Use meal replacement products. Consider drinking meal replacement shakes or eating meal replacement bars instead of eating meals. Read the directions on the meal replacement product you choose to ensure that you are using it properly. Some products can be used only once per day while others can be used twice a day.

Step 4

Exercise as much as possible every day. For most Americans, it is recommended that you exercise for an hour to 90 minutes per day on most days of the week. However, models often exercise the majority of the day. Your exercise routine should include high-intensity aerobics as well as moderate-level weight resistance exercises. A personal trainer can help you determine the appropriate exercises for your body type and fitness needs.

Step 5

Track your progress. Weigh yourself at the beginning of your weight loss plan and write the number down. Weigh yourself once per week after and write the numbers down to chart your progress. According to UCLA, weight can fluctuate by as much as 2 lbs. daily because of fluid changes in the body. You should weigh yourself on the same day of the week and at the same time each week wearing the same amount of clothing.

Step 6

Take pictures of yourself. Use a mirror to take pictures of yourself. You can do this in a bathing suit or nude. Invest in a photo printer for your camera so you can print your own pictures.
