Tennis coaching drills are designed to help you improve your player's form and technique while on the tennis court. In addition to fundamentals, tennis coaching drills can help improve a player's overall fitness level as well as her flexibility on the court. Tennis coaching drills range from overhand serving drills to wall drills.

Forehand Drills

Forehand drills will help you develop your student's shooting and accuracy in a controlled environment and eventually in a live game. To help your student develop a forehand with topspin, have him stand between the service line and the net. From here, stand on the other side of the net, tossing the player a ball toward her forehand. If you have thrown the ball correctly, it will land just over the net. From here, the bounce should force your student to hit the ball in an open stance over the net with top spin. Repeat this drill 20 times with your student or until she is fatigued.

High Volley Drills

High volley drills are designed to improve your students' overhead shot as well as their endurance and cardiovascular health. Have your students get in a straight line at the left singles sideline, with the first player lined up where the singles sideline meets the service line. One at a time, have the player jog forward until they get to the baseline, then slide to the right until they reach the middle of the court. Toss a ball to their forehand side, forcing them to hit a high volley over the net. Repeat 10 time with all the players in line.

Backhand Drills

Backhand drills will help improve your players' backstroke during a game and in practice. Have a player stand at the baseline in an open stance and hit a ball sharply toward your student's backhand side from the other side of the net. As the ball bounces over to the other side, instruct your student to hit the ball with topspin with his backhand by coming over the top half of the ball. Hit 10 to 20 balls to his backhand side or until he is fatigued.

Footwork Drills

Tennis footwork drills will help you improve your player's footwork as well as speed on the court. Have a player stand directly to the right of a plastic cone. On your mark, have her hop over the cone, jumping up and over with both feet directly next to each other. From here, have her jump back without pausing. Have your student jump back and forth for 30 seconds or until she is fatigued. As she improves, increase the duration of the drill.
