The simplest way to coat popcorn is to place it in a large bowl, add the seasoning ingredients and toss the mixture with a large spoon. This method works well for most situations, but sometimes it doesn't coat the popcorn well. To achieve an even coverage of ingredients, a bag might work better. Use a large bag that can hold all the ingredients and still have some remaining space left over so the popcorn can circulate well. Wet seasoning ingredients might require a plastic bag, but a paper bag works well for dry ingredients.
Step 1
Add the seasoning ingredients to the bag.
Step 2
Pour the popped popcorn into the bag. If the only bag you have available is too small to hold all the popcorn at once, divide the popcorn and seasonings so you can coat each portion separately.
Step 3
Fold the top of bag and staple it shut to stop fine or liquid ingredients from spilling out. Or use a twist tie to seal it shut.
Step 4
Turn the bag upside down to spread the seasoning and coat the popcorn. Keep shaking and turning the bag until the ingredients evenly coat the popcorn.
Tips and Warnings
- The amount of shaking the coating process requires depends on the seasonings you use. Insufficient shaking will produce popcorn with uneven coverage. Stop occasionally to test the popcorn.
