The teardrop punching bag is a tool that can be used by boxers and mixed martial arts fighters to develop their punching, kicking and striking skills. The teardrop bag is a large and bulbous bag that weighs 60 lbs. or more. Hitting the bag effectively requires strength, timing and endurance and can help a fighter develop his power in the octagon.

Punching Power

The teardrop punching bag is outstanding for developing punching power. The thickness and heaviness of the bag makes it significantly different from the speed bag, which helps quickness and hand-eye coordination. The teardrop back requires a much harder punch to move. Once you start hitting the teardrop punching bag with power, you will develop strength and endurance in your arms, shoulders and torso.

Roundhouse Kicks

The teardrop bag will help mixed martial arts fighters develop their ability to drive roundhouse kicks into an opponent. When you fire off a roundhouse kick to the the upper torso or head, you must get great lift and extension with your leg. The teardrop bag helps you get that height with your kicks. Throw roundhouse kicks at the tear drop bag for one minute at a time to build power and balance.

Knee Strike

The knee strike is one of the most effective moves in mixed martial arts fighting. To execute this move, the fighter will stabilize himself by grasping his opponent with both hands around the neck and bringing his knee up to his opponent's midsection and ribs. This can be easily practiced on the teardrop bag as the fighter wraps both hands around the top area of the bag, then raises his knees hard to the largest area of the bag. Do this for two minutes at a time while training.

Forearm and Elbow Strikes

Mixed martial arts fighters are allowed to use their forearms and elbows to aggressively strike their opponents. These blows can be stunning and will help turn a fight around when the fighter lands them consistently. Start by driving your left forearm into the midsection of the teardrop bag. Then strike the bag with your right elbow, followed by your left elbow and your left forearm. Follow this pattern for two minutes at a time to build more of an offensive arsenal and striking power.
