How to Boil a Tangerine Cake

Tangerines are high in vitamin C and may have the potential to improve your heart health. They can also make for an interesting main addition to a cake. Tangerines are de-seeded, pitted and then boiled before they are made into a cake. The boiling helps to soften the fruit and bring out its flavors. The same process can be used for other citrus fruit such as mandarins or clementines. Your boiled-tangerine cake can make a nice addition to a summer party or grill-out.

Step 1

Put your tangerines into a large saucepan. Add enough water to cover them.

Step 2

Heat the saucepan on medium heat so that the water comes to a boil. Reduce the heat and let the tangerines simmer for two hours.

Step 3

Drain the water from the tangerines, and set them aside in a bowl to cool.

Step 4

Remove the seeds once the tangerines cool. Put the entire fruit, including the skin, into the blender. Pulse the blender until the tangerines are finely chopped.

Step 5

Heat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease and line your baking pan with baking parchment paper.

Step 6

Beat the sugar, nuts and baking powder into the eggs well. Stir the tangerines evenly into the batter, and pour it into your baking pan. Bake your cake for 40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
