How to Make Lime Sour

Lime sour is a cocktail mixer that you can use in alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. If you are having a party and planning to mix a lot of drinks, sour mix saves you the time of having to juice your citrus for each drink. A bottle of lime sour also takes up less room than fresh limes, knives and cutting boards. You can buy lime sour in bartending supply stores and party supply outlets. You also can make your own lime sour in minutes.

Step 1

Combine the sugar and water in a small pot. Heat the pot on high and stir until the mixture comes to a boil.

Step 2

Reduce the temperature to low. Continue stirring until the mixture thickens to the consistency of pancake syrup.

Step 3

Remove the pot from the burner. Squeeze the orange into the syrup and stir in the lime juice.

Step 4

Use the citrus zester to add approximately 1/2 tsp. of zest from the orange peel.

Step 5

Transfer the lime sour to an air-tight plastic bottle. Store it in the refrigerator for up to 14 days.
