Healing & Smoothing Foods for Skin

What a person eats, or doesn't eat, can have a significant impact on the health and vibrancy of her skin. A study done at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland suggests that dietary habits, determine the healthiness of one's skin. Fruits, vegetables, healthy fats and foods containing zinc can promote overall wellness as well as smoother, softer skin.

Fruits and Vegetables

Fruits and vegetables contain many helpful antioxidants, which fight diseases such as skin cancer, reduce damage and wrinkling of the skin and can prevent acne. Increasing your consumption of these foods will improve your overall health as well as the state of your skin.

Healthy Fats

A study facilitated by the University of Pittsburgh found that healthy fats, such as omega three's, can prevent dry or flaky skin and clear up skin in general. Researchers suggest fatty fish, such as salmon, twice per week for appropriate intake of omega three's. Flax seeds and walnuts also contain such healthy fats.

Foods Containing Zinc

Healthy zinc intake is correlated with smooth, healthy skin. Foods such as soy milk, tofu, tempeh, black beans, kidney beans, barley, oatmeal and wheat germ contain healthy amounts of zinc. Incorporate these foods into your overall diet for optimal benefits.
