How to Diet With the Acai Berry

Acai berries are considered a superfood because they contain a very high amount of nutrients and antioxidants. Found in the rain forests of Brazil, acai berries have long been a food staple there. These nutritious berries contain antioxidants, dietary fiber, amino acids, and omega fats. Acai berry supplements deliver the benefits of the berries in a convenient pill, powder or juice form. Adding acai berry to any diet may improve energy, increase fat-burning, decrease hunger, stabilize blood sugar, and help to eliminate free radical toxins.

Step 1

Obtain a quality acai berry product from your local health retailer. Fresh acai berries can be hard to come by if you do not live in the Brazilian rain forest. Supplements provide the benefits of the berries in a convenient form with a longer shelf-life. Pills, powders and juices are available. Choose freeze-dried pills and powders, or juices with no sugar added to them.

Step 2

Take your acai product in conjunction with a fasting or cleansing program in order to accelerate the results. Acai naturally cleanses the body's cells due to its antioxidant content. When toxins are eliminated, the body can function optimally to burn fat and maintain a healthy body weight.

Step 3

Add 1 or 2 tablespoons of acai powder or juice to a cup of green tea, creating a powerful fat-burning energy drink. In addition, you can add 1 or 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, which Paul C. Bragg claims can improve the elimination of toxins and help you reach your weight-loss goals. Drink this combination three to five times a day between meals to decrease hunger, improve energy, and keep metabolism going strong.

Step 4

Combine acai powder or juice with protein powder to make a power smoothie. According to "The Fat Burning Bible," by Mackie Shilstone, protein supplements make great snacks to keep hunger at bay and stoke the fire of metabolism. You can also add frozen banana, blueberries, strawberries or raspberries. Take in two or three such snacks between your main three meals for optimal metabolic function.

Step 5

Add acai supplements to your meals to increase their nutrient profiles. The natural antioxidants, amino acids, omega fats, and fiber may help with your weight-loss goals. A diet of 30 percent lean protein, 30 percent healthy fat, and 40 percent low-glycemic (slow-digesting) carbohydrates keeps metabolism high, according to "The Fat Burning Bible." Adding acai may help to keep blood sugar low, preventing insulin spikes, and therefore body fat storage. Not to mention that acai juice and berries are a delicious treat as an addition to any meal.
