Mineral makeup has taken the cosmetics industry by storm, touting its ability to keep skin healthy by containing no oils or chemicals. Mineral makeup can be an effective concealor, easily hiding blemishes and scars. There are several ready-to-use versions, and many of these can be quite costly. Making your own mineral makeup can save you money. Ingredients can be purchased online or at a beauty supply store. You will get the best bargains, however, from online retailers. The total cost of your ingredients will range from $50 to $150 depending on if you buy the entire kit or just individual ingredients. Your self-made product will last for at least a year, affording you a yearly savings of approximately $100.
Step 1
Mix together 8 teaspoons of micronized titanium dioxide, 3 teaspoons of bismuth oxychloride, 4 teaspoons of zinc oxide-low micron, 1 teaspoon magnesium stearate, 1/2 to 1 teaspoon yellow iron oxide, 1/16 teaspoon, brown iron oxide, and one
pinch of red iron oxide. Using your mortar and pestle, make sure the ingredients are well-blended.
Step 2
Slowly add 1/4 teaspoon Jojoba oil, 5 drops vitamin E oil, and 4 to 8 drops of any essential oil such as Bergamot, to your mixture. Mix well until the ingredients are all of the same appearance and texture.
Step 3
Mix 1 teaspoon sericite mica---matte finish into your mixture to reduce shine when applied to your face and to ensure correct color. Add more for darker skin tones or less for lighter skin tones.
Step 4
Pour your powder mixture into the sifter jars. You should be able to fill three sifter jars with your mineral makeup.
Step 5
Apply makeup with a clean cosmetic brush using a circular motion, starting at the cheekbones and nose, then working your way out to the hairline. Make sure the makeup is blended well to avoid lines.
