Some people embark on detox diets or raw diets hoping to purify their internal systems or embrace a healthful lifestyle. Others might just want to slip into a smaller pair of jeans or go down a dress size. The Raw Food Detox diet can facilitate weight loss, but you should always consult a doctor before beginning a new diet program. Some individuals, including children, may not be ideal candidates for the Raw Food Detox diet.

Explanation

The Raw Food Detox diet was designed by Natalia Rose to help people transition to a raw diet, according to EveryDiet.org. Rose identifies five entry levels for beginning the diet plan; readers take tests in her "Raw Food Detox Diet" book to determine where they should start. The lowest level guides dieters to consume 75 percent raw foods, but with at least one cooked vegetarian meal each day. The strictest level includes only raw fruit, vegetables and juice until dinner, when dieters may consume raw vegan dishes. Rose states that since dieters gradually transition into stricter levels, discomfort or unfamiliarity with the plan is reduced. Weight loss occurs as dieters phase out processed foods and dense meal choices such as meatloaf.

Foods

Acceptable foods include raw fruits and vegetables, raw nuts, dried fruit, Thai young coconut, avocado, olive oil and goat cheese, according to EveryDiet.org. Commercially produced goods acting as substitutes for breads, crackers, health bars and cookies are also acceptable. Examples of cooked foods that can be consumed by dieters during early phases of the Raw Food Detox diet include vegetarian pasta, brown rice, steamed vegetables and soups.

Menus

Menus change according to what level you're at for weight loss and detoxification. Under the Level 5 plan, the most lenient strategy, a typical day might include fruit, toast, avocado and celery for breakfast; a veggie salad and sandwich for lunch; and vegetarian lasagna for dinner, according to "The Raw Food Detox Diet." Snacks include baby carrots; dessert might be ? chocolate bar. By contrast, the Level 1 plan might include plant-based lemonade for breakfast, fresh fruit throughout the day, raw sushi for dinner and raw chocolate pudding for dessert.

Pros and Cons

Participants in the Raw Food Detox diet might enjoy consuming an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables. Other pros include a flexible, gradual approach that allows dieters to progress at their own pace, according to EveryDiet.org. Conservative incorporation of animal protein, such as fish, might be welcomed by dieters who don't want to go completely vegetarian. Another pro is that you can eat dessert daily. The weight loss plan also has some drawbacks. Preparing meals from scratch can be time consuming, and options for dining in restaurants can be limited. Some dieters might not want to undergo colonics, which are a recommended part of the regime.
