The highback plates are an essential component of snowboard bindings. The highback provides ankle support during high-impact landings and hairpin turns. Highbacks are often lined with high-density foam for increased comfort. Women's snowboard bindings feature a lowered highback to accommodate the unique placement of the female calf muscle. Rotating the highbacks will allow you to adjust the foot placement of your snowboarding stance. According to ABC-of-Snowboarding, bindings are equipped with hinge slots that allow you to easily rotate the highbacks. Fastec recommends using a No. 2 Phillips screwdriver when adjusting the highback position.

Step 1

Lower your snowboard onto a flat worktable with the bindings facing up. Insert the Phillips screwdriver into the binding screw that holds the middle strap in place. Rotate the screwdriver counterclockwise to loosen the screw halfway.

Step 2

Loosen the screw on the opposing side of the binding located under the auto release lever. Repeat the screw loosening process with your second binding. Push against the highbacks to rotate them side to side.

Step 3

Align the highbacks parallel to the heel-edge of your snowboard for increased turning efficiency. Re-tighten the binding screws to fasten the highbacks in place. Lower your boots into the snowboard bindings to test the new position of the highback plates.
