You can adjust the height of your bike's handlebar stem to make your ride more comfortable. Raising the stem increases the height of your handlebars and takes the strain caused by low handlebars off your back and upper body. When your handlebars are at the correct height, your back is at a 45-degree angle to the ground, with your head in a comfortable forward position and your hands easily reaching the brake and shift levers.
Step 1
Fit an adjustable wrench on the bolt at the top of your bicycle stem.
Step 2
Turn the bolt counterclockwise to loosen it.
Step 3
Twist the handlebars left and right, while putting slight upward pressure on the bars. Continue to twist the handlebars to pull the stem up to your desired height.
Step 4
Line up the handlebar with the front wheel. Tighten the bolt at the top of the stem to secure the handlebars at your selected height.
