Kiwi fruit is not only a healthy, tasty choice for slicing and eating as a snack, but also for pureeing. Kiwi puree is a good choice for baby food, fruit drinks and sauces, and if you do not include additional, sugary ingredients, it provides the same nutritional value. A 1/2 cup, 50-calorie serving of kiwi has no fat, sodium or cholesterol and provides 140 percent of your daily vitamin C requirement and 12 percent of your daily fiber requirement.
Step 1
Slice 1/4 inch from the top and bottom of each kiwi. Remove the skin with a sharp paring knife and then cut the kiwi into quarters.
Step 2
Add the kiwi quarters to a mixing bowl. Using a hand or electric mixer on low speed, blend the quarters for 10 to 15 seconds, until the kiwi becomes smooth and takes on the consistency of thick jelly.
Step 3
Stir in up to 2 tsp. of water, one at a time, if you want kiwi puree with a thinner consistency.
Tips and Warnings
- It takes about four kiwi fruits to make 1 cup of puree. Kiwi has a naturally sweet taste resembling a combination of peaches, strawberries and melons. This makes additional sweetening via sugar or a sugar substitute unnecessary.
