If you have experienced an injury to your leg, it is very important that you rest. However, it is also important that you remain active. There are a variety of different exercises that you can do when dealing with an injury to your lower body. Some activities include the arm ergometer, arm cycling and wheelchair activities.

Arm Ergometer

The arm ergometer looks like a bicycle for your arms. The pedals are at chest height and you perform the same movement as you would with a bike, using your arms. If you have to be in a wheelchair during your injury, simply pull your wheelchair up to this piece of equipment and begin exercising. You have the option to use the chair provided or remove it and use a wheelchair.

Arm Cycling

Arm cycling is a popular event performed by people that do not have use of their legs. It is very similar to the arm ergometer but is performed outside. The bicycle is in a recumbent position with no pedals for your feet. Instead, the pedals are located close to your chest in order to use your arms to produce the movement.

Wheelchair Activities

If you are using a wheelchair during your injury, you have the option of using it as a piece of cardio equipment. Not only can you perform cardio exercise just by pushing your wheelchair, you could compete in races that allow you to stay competitive during an injury.

Remaining Active

During any injury it is difficult to maintain an active lifestyle. These pieces of equipment provide you with great options to stay active during injury or even disability to the lower extremities.
