How to Prepare Chicken Gizzards

Gizzards are the part of a chicken's stomach used to grind and mix the feed for digestion. Most people don't consider eating the gizzard when it comes time to prepare and eat a chicken. However, chicken gizzards are enjoyed by many cultures around the world. Proper preparation is essential for ending up with delicious chicken gizzards, but it may take several attempts before you enjoy the taste and texture of the gizzards.

Step 1

Remove the chicken gizzards from the packaging and separate from any chicken hearts, if present.

Step 2

Hold the gizzard down on a cutting board and cut through the outer sac between the two openings.

Step 3

Peel the inside gizzard away from the sac and discard the sac.

Step 4

Cut any excess fat or gristle from the gizzard.

Step 5

Wash the gizzards thoroughly with cold running water.

Step 6

Pour water into a pot and bring to a boil.

Step 7

Place the gizzards in the boiling water and parboil for about 15 minutes to finish the preparation.
