The Idiot Proof Diet was developed by two friends, India Knight and Neris Thomas, who used it to lose a combined 140 lb. over the course of one year. The diet has three phases: The first phase allows very few carbohydrates, the second phase allows you to consume between 40 g and 100 g of carbohydrates each day and the final phase allows you to add carbohydrates until you start to gain weight.
Calorie Shifting Diet
The Calorie Shifting Diet uses calorie shifting, also called calorie cycling, to try to confuse your body. It involves eating a different number of calories at each meal, and eating between four and six meals per day. Because this diet is also called Fat Loss 4 Idiots, some people may confuse it with the Idiot Proof Diet, but they are very different. The Idiot Proof Diet is a low-carb, high-protein diet that does not use calorie cycling.
Nutrition
The Idiot Proof Diet is high in protein. It may be low in fiber and certain vitamins and minerals, and high in fat, if you do not choose your food wisely. Focus on whole grains, high-fiber fruits and vegetables and low-fat meat and dairy products to make this diet as nutritious as possible.
Weight Loss
High-protein diets can be effective for weight loss, but it is best to follow them only for a short time, recommends MayoClinic.com, to minimize the possible health risks. Getting at least 20 minutes of exercise per day will make weight loss even more likely than following the diet recommendations alone.
Considerations
Speak to your doctor before starting any weight loss diet to make sure it is safe for you to do so. High-protein diets can lead to kidney problems for people who already have a mild renal insufficiency, and may also cause constipation. Vegetarians will not be able to follow the Idiot Proof Diet, and people with kidney or liver problems or diabetes should not use this diet. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should also avoid high-protein diets like the Idiot Proof Diet.
