Vitamins to Lose Weight

A diet high in B vitamins will assist you in losing unneeded body weight. B vitamins increase your body's metabolism, states Gale Maleskey, author of "Nature's Medicines: The Definitive Guide to Health Supplements." You can achieve a healthy diet filled with B vitamins by consuming more milk, almonds, oatmeal and bananas. Talk to your doctor before you start a weight-loss program. She can give you advice about what you should eat.

Vitamin B-2

Riboflavin, also known as vitamin B-2, helps to increase your body's rate of metabolism, reports Nicola Reavley in her book "The New Encyclopedia of Vitamins, Minerals, Supplements, and Herbs: A Completely Cross-Referenced User's Guide for Optimal Health." Adding foods that contain B-2 to your diet, such as cheese, milk and almonds, can help you lose weight.

Vitamin B-3

Niacin, also known as vitamin B-3, helps your body burn proteins, fats and unwanted carbohydrates. You can get vitamin B-3 in green leafy vegetables. Eating five to seven servings of these vegetables each week will help your body achieve needed weight loss, Maleskey states.

Vitamin B-5

Vitamin B-5, or pantothenic acid, helps you to burn off unneeded body fat and increases your body's energy at the same time, Reavley states. By combining exercise and this B vitamin, you can achieve weight loss. Sources of B-5 include liver, kidneys, meat, eggs, whole germ and whole meal bread.

Vitamin B-12

Vitamin B-12, or cobalamin, acts as your body's energy source as it also increases your body's metabolism. When you consume this vitamin, your body metabolizes food more quickly, including even fat and glucose. You will experience more energy and stamina when you exercise. You can take a supplement of this vitamin by injection or by mouth. Before you start this vitamin supplement, talk to your doctor.

B Complex

B complex vitamins containing various B vitamins such as B-2, B-3, B-5 and B-6 can help your body to burn fats and glucose or sugar during the digestion of food. By this process of maximizing calories, you can lose weight quicker. This increased ability to burn glucose and fat enhanced by vitamins helps to keep you in shape.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C helps to reduce fatigue and increases your body's ability to oxidize unwanted fat, Maleskey reports. In simple terms, vitamin C helps you feel better and helps you lose weight. You can ingest vitamin C in citrus fruits and some vegetables. Another health benefit of vitamin C is its help in protecting you from disease, including the common cold.
