Wonton wraps are most often filled and fried or steamed, but baking offers an alternative for this convenient refrigerated wheat-flour pasta product. While you might associate wonton wraps with Asian food, they are quite versatile, pairing with nearly any flavor you like, from fresh fruit to seafood. You can bake wonton wraps into crisp, light and tasty cups as an appetizer, a main course, or even a dessert.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spray mini-muffin pans with non-stick cooking spray.
Dampen several paper towels. Wonton wrappers are quite fragile, and should be kept moist until they are ready to bake. Use the paper towels to cover the wonton wraps as you work and to cover the mini-muffin pans as you prepare additional wraps.
Press each wonton wrapper into a muffin cup. Allow the wrap to overlap as necessary to fit into the muffin cup.
Brush each wonton wrap with oil or butter, depending upon the filling you've chosen. Sprinkle lightly with salt for a savory filling or sugar for dessert cups.
Bake four to five minutes in the preheated oven. Remove from the oven and place a teaspoon of filling into each wonton cup. Return to the oven and bake five additional minutes.
