Self-raising flour makes the process of creating pizza dough considerably easier and much less time consuming. It eliminates the need to use yeast and wait for the dough to rise, and reduces the time you spend working with the dough to get it to the right consistency. Although you can adjust a yeast dough recipe and use self-raising flour in place of the yeast and salt, a pizza dough recipe specifically for self-raising flour is easier to follow and reduces the chance of making mistakes that affect the dough.
Step 1
Stir to combine the flour and Parmesan in a medium mixing bowl. Push the dry ingredients to the sides of the bowl, leaving an empty well in the center.
Step 2
Bring 2/3 cup water to a boil in your microwave oven or on your stove top. Pour the water into the center well, followed by the oil.
Step 3
Stir to combine the water and dry ingredients until a soft dough forms.
Step 4
Cover the mixing bowl with a sheet of plastic, and let it sit in your refrigerator for five to 10 minutes.
Step 5
Sprinkle 1 to 2 tsp. of flour on a cutting board or your kitchen counter.
Step 6
Set the chilled dough on top of the flour. Knead the dough with clean hands for five minutes until it firms slightly and becomes smooth.
Step 7
Roll the dough with a rolling pin or pat it with your hands into a round the size of your pizza pan.
Step 8
Loosen the dough by sliding a spatula underneath, and slide it onto the pan.
