Caramelized honey can used as part of a sauce or dessert recipe. It can also be used alone as a syrup flavoring to add over cake, muffins, granola, pancakes, waffles or fruit salads, according to the Food Channel website. Store caramelized honey in your refrigerator in a sealed container and use as needed. Although caramelized honey can be prepared quickly, it needs to be monitored closely to reduce chances of burning.
Step 1
Pour honey in a saucepan. Add additional ingredients if desired. Dark brown sugar, for example, can deepen the flavor of honey; add 1 tbsp. for every cup of honey. Add water to minimize scorching, and lemon juice to reduce hardening.
Step 2
Cook the honey over a low heat while stirring constantly with a wooden spatula. Bring to a simmering boil and cook for an additional two minutes until the honey is golden brown.
Step 3
Remove from heat and pour the honey in a heat-resistant container to cool and store.
