1. A Hair Raising Experience
Many men and some women experience hair loss (alopecia) during the course of their lives. There is no cure for hair loss, however there are treatments to slow the process or hide the effects. If you notice a sudden hair loss, call your health care provider to make sure there isn't another physical condition causing your hair to fall out. After you have the doctor identify your type of hair loss, baldness treatment can begin.
2. Stimulate Hair Growth
There are some effective medications on the market for baldness. Over-the-counter medications are foam or liquid topical treatments. These treatments may promote some slow hair regrowth that stops after you stop treating your scalp. Scalp irritation may be a side effect. Oral prescription medication may also be effective. Since this medication is a hormone treatment, it may be dangerous for childbearing age women to even touch the pills. Your health care provider may choose to inject cortisone into your scalp to help slow down alopecia. Other creams or ointments your doctor may prescribe to stimulate hair growth are typically psoriasis medications.
3. Go Under the Scalpel
Surgery is another option as a baldness treatment. The most common types of baldness surgery are hair transplants and scalp reduction. Choose a board-certified surgeon to evaluate your scalp and check his credentials. Although, it may be expensive and painful, a surgical procedure may give you the most natural-looking hairline. This may take up to eight months for it to look natural. Surgery doesn't come without risks, such as scars or infection.
4. Wigging Out
If you can't accept your baldness but surgery or medication isn't for you, a wig or hairpiece may be another option. In today's market, full wigs or hairpieces are more natural than in past years. Many of them are actual human hair and fit snuggly against the scalp.
5. Massage Your Follicles
A more natural approach to hair loss is massaging the scalp with aloe vera, jojoba oil or lavender and bay essential oils to increase blood flow and stimulate your hair follicles. Infuse and massage herbal concoctions, such as nettle root extract, rosemary and sage into the scalp regularly. Many people also say saw palmetto extract works to boost prostate health and link prostate issues to alopecia. Many men also accept the fact that they are going bald and embrace it by shaving their heads. This is a stylish look that masks the pattern baldness and helps boost confidence. If you do decide to shave your head, extra care of your scalp is essential. Use moisturizer with sunscreen each day and always protect your head with a cap when you're going to be in the sun for long periods.
