Diving into a pool without swimming goggles has advantages and disadvantages. On one hand, diving into a pool with goggles that aren't tight enough or not designed for diving can easily slip off and interfere with your swimming. On the other hand, swimming without goggles makes seeing where you're going difficult and can interfere with keeping yourself streamlined, especially during bilateral breathing. The mechanics of diving into the pool are essentially the same, whether you wear goggles or not.
From a Diving Block
Step 1
Stand on the block with your feet in a forward position with your toes curled around the edge, or in a track position with one leg forward and the other back.
Step 2
Bend down and grab the edge of the block. Shift your weight forward or backward, depending on your dive preference.
Step 3
Look ahead and focus on the length of the pool. You won't be able to keep your eyes open for very long underwater without goggles, so get a good visualization of the pool length before diving.
Step 4
Pull forward with your arms and push off with your legs while keeping your head straight and facing down. Keep your eyes closed as you hit the water, then proceed to swim as you would normally.
From the Side of the Pool
Step 1
Place your feet on the edge of the pool, or stagger them similar to the track dive.
Step 2
Bend down and grab the lip of the pool.
Step 3
Push off using your arms and legs and tuck your head into your chest. Keep your eyes closed when entering the water.
