As a holistic or natural remedy, honey and cinnamon have long been acknowledged to benefit our bodies. According to the American Heart Association, cardiovascular disease, or heart disease, is the leading cause of death for Americans. Fortunately, eating a healthy, wholesome bread containing honey and cinnamon may help ward off further damage and improve our lives. Please consult with your physician before starting any diet program.

Honey

Despite honey having high levels of sucrose and fructose, which can lead to obesity and diabetes, it has been shown to lower the risk of heart disease. In a typical blood sample, cholesterol, homocysteine and C-reactive protein, or CRP, are the major indicators of heart disease. It is believed that consuming small quantities of honey will drastically reduce cholesterol and CRP levels, thus reducing your risk of heart disease.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon is a readily available, inexpensive spice that can help decrease your risk of heart disease. According to a 2009 study conducted by chemist Richard Anderson, of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, a small amount of cinnamon, which contains antioxidative compounds, could help reduce risk factors associated with diabetes and heart disease. Cinnamon has been shown to improve blood flow, reducing LDL cholesterol levels, and help improve blood pressure and circulation.

Whole Grains

Eating breads that contain wholesome, whole grains may lower your risk of heart disease. According to a study published by the "American Journal of Clinical Nutrition," whole grains decrease your risk of blood clots forming in your arteries and veins. Common types of whole grains for breads are wheat, barley, maize, rye, spelt and buckwheat.

Considerations

Although honey and cinnamon is been shown to help people with heart disease, it is important to remember that only small quantities of each are needed to reap the benefits. Honey has high levels of sugars, which if consumed in high quantities, can possibly lead to obesity and other health problems. Please consult with your doctor before starting any diet program and prior to stopping any medication.
