How to Convert The Simplicity Crib to Toddler Bed

Converting a baby crib to a toddler bed is an exciting time. The baby is ready to move about on his own and is no longer satisfied with the confinement of the baby crib. The toddler bed will allow the child to enter and exit his bed without climbing over the rail and adding height to his inevitable fall. When your crib is converted, the mattress will be at the lowest height, and side bars will replace the crib railing on one side. Allow yourself one entire afternoon to convert the bed, since you will need to gather tools and parts.

Step 1

Remove the drop rail. Lift the rail that raises and lowers. Push in the tabs at the top of both tracks. Slide the drop rail off the tracks.

Step 2

Place mattress supports in the lowest position. You may need to use your allen wrench to remove the bolts and lower the supports.

Step 3

Take the casters off the crib. Lift each leg of the crib and pull the caster straight out. Make sure the sockets stay on the legs.

Step 4

Attach the left safety rail by removing the mattress support bolt that is located next to the bottom arm of the railing. Attach the bottom arm of the left safety rail in front of the S shaped bracket and into the headboard using the longer bolt that came with the bed and an allen wrench. Attach the top arm of the left safety rail loosely to the headboard using another long bolt that came with the bed and the allen wrench. Connect the rail to the underside of the mattress support using the shorter allen bolt. This bolt will screw through the J shaped hook of the safety rail and into the insert in the underside of the mattress support.

Step 5

Attach the right safety rail by removing the mattress support bolt that is located next to the bottom arm of the railing. Attach the bottom arm of the right safety rail in front of the S shaped bracket and into the headboard using the longer bolt that came with the bed and an allen wrench. Attach the top arm of the right safety rail loosely to the headboard using another long bolt that came with the bed and the allen wrench. Connect the rail to the underside of the mattress support using the shorter allen bolt. This bolt will screw through the J shaped hook of the safety rail and into the insert in the underside of the mattress support.
